Maybe they realize that dying of their own will is a better fate than living out days of hatred, regret and pain that other people can so freely give out.

    way to generalize
many, MANY people would rather kill you and live
its only the desperate that commit suicide, the smart ones don’t
of course you have to be pretty desperate to murder people anyway, but sometimes its the only logical choice (try not to take that the wrong way)

Well it takes a lot of trouble in the persons life to drive them to kill in the first place. Which means that they are probably hating their life anyways. So which is better in a killers mind: Kill yourself or go have a life time in jail? Most would choose death.

If that was anything like the truth there wouldn’t be so many unsolved homicides or repeat offenders. The one’s you describe are actually quite rare, which is why they make the news. The overwhelming majority of people who commit murder run, ditch the evidence, and try to get away with it.
